James R. Urbaniak Piedmont Foundation Fund (General Fund) This contribution will allow the basic endowment to grow and will support additional grants to Duke residents for both research, educational projects, and support of the academic program at the annual academic meeting.

William E. Garrett, Jr. Educational Fund. It was Billy Garrett’s desire to have an educational fund for the residents. Teaching orthopaedic residents was Billy’s greatest passion and he was rewarded by being the only individual selected for the top teaching award in orthopaedic surgery at both Duke and at the University of North Carolina. The William E. Garrett, Jr. fund will be used to support resident education, research and academic travel and meeting registration mostly related to Dr. Garrett’s sports/musculoskeletal interests.

William T. Hardaker, Jr. Residents’ Fellowship Fund This contribution will allow the basic endowment to grow and will support educational travel and registration expenses for each resident to attend the Annual Piedmont Orthopedic Society Meeting during their fourth or fifth year.

George S.E. Aitken Lectureship Fund This fund will provide for an expert visiting professor coming to Duke to speak at Grand Rounds on a variety of topics focusing on work-life balance issues, as opposed to basic orthopedic issues or research.

Anthony V. Seaber Student Fellowship Fund This contribution will aid in establishing an endowment for the purpose of sending medical students who work in the Orthopedic Research Laboratories to present their papers at various orthopaedic meetings. Tony Seaber had a strong desire to aid our students in this manner.
